10 Star House, Done Dirt Cheap!

This design shows that high performance can be achieved at affordable levels.

The core module of this design concept is an 8 x 8 metre 2 storey ‘cube’ which can be used in a multitude of combinations, such as single houses, dual occupancy, multi units and row houses.

Passive energy results are delivered with appropriate placement and size of windows for beneficial solar gain. Clerestory windows admit north light to rear section of first floor. Thermal chimney effect is introduced to enhance summer night purging ventilation. Ceiling fans included to assist summer comfort needs. Cost effectiveness comes from high efficiency of layout and building fabric arrangement. All bedrooms in 3 bed layout are 4m x 4m. Partitioning placement options on first floor enable 1, 2 and 3 bed room layouts. High performance energy rating of building fabric is complemented by reduced embodied energy achieved with minimized materials use.

The 8 Star version of this house is now available at very affordable levels. Included in the base model are low energy lighting, 3kW photovoltaic renewable power generation package 10,000l rain water tank, grey water diversion system and solar hot water unit. Custom specification of finishes, fixtures and fittings available by consultation. Multi-unit combinations may be arranged on suitable sites.
